Happy Catholic Schools Week! We will participate in fun activities throughout the week.
Math: We started Chapter 7 at the end of last week and continue working through the chapter. We are learning the place value of digits, expanded form, decomposing numbers, tens and ones for numbers up to 120, and comparing numbers.
Fundations: This week we will introduce the glued sounds -ang, -ing, -ong, and -ung. We will practice tapping and blending words with these glued sounds. Students will learn about sentences. We will write sentences and learn/review trick words.
ELA: Phonics: We will continue learning long o spelling o_e and long u spelled u_e. (VCE - vowel consonant e) We will practice reading words with long o and u, blending sounds, deleting phonemes to make a new sound, and identifying alliteration.
High-Frequency Words: We will read and write the words ago, boy, girl, how, old, and people. We will identify these words as we read our stories throughout the week. We will also create sentences using these words.
Reading: We will answer the essential "How is life different than it was long ago?" this week. We will compare and contrast while reading. We will read and reread Life at Home, discuss the characteristics of a folktale, and discuss the moral of the story. We will read our anchor text Long Ago and Now and compare what life was like long ago to what life is like now.
Writing and Grammar: We will learn irregular verbs is and are. We will practice writing sentences. We will begin learning about and writing an expository text.
Religion: We will continue learning about the church year. We will also learn about Ordinary Time. We will take our test on Tuesday.
Science/Social Studies: Scholastic News - Which Will Melt?. We will read the article and answer questions. We will compare and contrast a snowman and a sandman.
