A super moon is a full moon that appears to be 14% bigger and 30% brighter--and by the end of the summer, we will have had three of them! The next super moon will be on September 9th. It's rare to have so many super moons so close together. We won't experience this phenomenon--three in a row--again until 2034.
What's really neat is that the super moon of August 10th coincides with the Perseids meteor shower--which will peak August 12-13th!
Here are some pictures that we took tonight around 11 PM of the super moon. My daughter Catie took the first picture, and I took the second shot. We didn't see any meteors, but we'll be out with our telescopes and camera for the next few nights--hoping for clear skies and a chance to see something amazing!
Kids and parents, if you get any shots, email me, and I'll post them here!
