What's Happening in 1A?
Math: In chapter 11 we will be learning about addition of two-digit numbers. We will finish the chapter this week and take our test on Thursday. Friday we will begin chapter 12- Two-digit subtraction.
Fundations: This week we are practicing tapping and blending words with suffixes -ed and -ing. We will practice adding suffixes to the end of our words.
ELA:
Phonics: This week we are learning words with dipthongs ou, ow. Our spelling list week reflects this phonics pattern with review words. We will read decodables and a selection of stories that match our phonics skill.
High-Frequency Words: Our words this week are: color, early, instead, nothing, oh, thought
Reading: This week we will answer the essential question: What sounds can you hear? How are they made? We will read a variety of stories to answer our question and build background knowledge. Our story this week is fiction story, "Whistle for Willie". We will discuss the events in the story and problem and solution.
Writing and Grammar: Our writing will focus on problem and solution. We will continue to practice writing introduction and wrap up sentences. Students will write a constructed response. In grammar we are learning how to use a, an, this and that in a sentence.
Religion: In chapter 12 we learned about the structure of the Catholic Chuch. In chapter 15 we will learn about the parish community and its activities.
