Welcome to Grade 8 Room 10!
This page will help to answer general classroom information. As always, when in doubt please contact me.
Below I would like to highlight several classroom rules/procedures that will be beneficial to you and your child.
Homework
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia states that 8th grade homework should take 120 minutes. This is both written and study work. Homework is meant to reinforce skills taught in school. If your child is struggling with the material, have them stop and send me a note. I do not want them to be frustrated or overwhelmed. I will take a few extra minutes to go over the concept with your child.
Homework that is not completed will result in a loss of recess in order for your child to complete the assignment. After 3 missed homeworks, children will receive an after school detention.
Test Procedures/Quizzes
I will announce tests at least 3-5 days in advance. I post a test schedule on my web page every week. Students also write test schedules in their assignment books and I post a Test Schedule on the board.
Quizzes can and will be given without notice.
Test Folders
I generally send home test folders every other week. Please review your child's tests, sign and return. Again, if you have a question, please contact me.
Grade Book
Grades are posted on My Student's Progress (MSP) regularly. The grades on MSP are weighted. You can not average them to find the total grade.
Classroom Behavior
Students are expected to follow the Golden Rule: Treat others as you would want to be treated.
Birthdays
Birthdays are a very special day for your child even in 8th grade!
Abscence
From time to time little ones do get sick. Please call the office to report your child as absent. If you would like to have your child' s work sent home, please let me know in the morning so I have time to get the work together. Children who are absent will have 2 days to make up their work. If more time is needed, please let me know. Upon return, your child will need a note stating the date(s) and reason of abscence.
Web Site
The web site is a valuable tool for parents and teachers. I update my page weekly by posting test schedules and latest news. I will also post projects and important forms on my web page. I check my e-mail daily so please feel free to contact me at jcallahan@stdots.org . **Please Note: There are times when the server is down or when "things" may prevent me from posting or checking mail.
