All incoming 1st graders are responsible for the following assignments. We have put together a summer packet of work for your child. Summer work is planned to assist your child in forming good study habits that would keep them fresh on skills necessary moving into first-grade. All work is based on what was taught in Kindergarten. We designed the work so that your child can work 2 or 3 days a week for 45-60 minutes. With a consistent plan your child will not find this taxing. Please have these assignments completed and returned on the first week of school as they will count toward a classwork grade.
If you need another copy of the packet, please reach out to one of the first-grade teachers or administration.
Math and ELA Packet– The activities in this book will review the kindergarten skills and prepare students for the skills they will learn in first grade. You may complete the packets at your convenience; however, they must be fully completed and returned the first week of school. Writing Packet– Students should respond to the writing prompts in this packet. Responding to these prompts will help students continue practicing the writing skills they learned in kindergarten. Students should respond with two or more sentences. They must be fully completed and returned the first week of school. Reading – Each student is required to read 2 specific books and complete a report for one of them. In addition to the required readings, your child should also enjoy reading fiction/fantasy books and nonfiction/informative books throughout the summer. Math Facts and Sight Words – In addition to the required assignments, students should be practicing their math facts and sight words throughout the summer. You can find math fact activities and sight word activities at the link: https://pin.it/KhgGasdEi.
You will find an attached sheet with the sight words students should know going into first grade. Math facts practiced should be facts 1-10.
