Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU)
St. Dorothy School receives the following services from the Delaware County Intermediate Unit: Reading and Math Specialist, Speech/Language Specialist, Hearing Specialist, Psychologist, and Counselor. Educational testing for students who exhibit weaknesses is also available through the Delaware County Intermediate Unit.
Non-Public Instructional Support Team (NP-IST) is a team approach to a problem-solving process that allows educators with special training to work together, in a partnership with parents, to help improve the school performance of their children. The IST team is made up of the school’s principal, vice principal, our instructional support teacher, who has gone through the IST training process, consultants from the Delaware County Intermediate Unit who are assigned to give services to our school (IU staff may include a school psychologist, counselor, remedial reading or math teacher, and speech therapist) and the teacher and parents of the child being referred. In this way, the team, with different expertise, can address problems and come up with strategies for the teachers and parents to put in place. Monitoring of the child’s progress is done on an ongoing basis and strategies are adjusted accordingly.
