    Communication Liason for the 8th grade class TBD

    Dear 8th Grade Families,

    We hope you have enjoyed a relaxing summer and quality family time. As most of you know from our meeting on May 25th we decided to vote on the option to hold fund raising or just have an 8th grade fee. For those that answered the questionnaire 87% were in favor of a joint fundraising and grade fee for their child’s eighth grade year. 73% of you responded you could help with 1 or 2 lunches during the year and 23% said they maybe could help. Mrs. Callahan and I sat down and looked over the names that offered to join and head up a committee. Mrs. Callahan will be in touch in an email to follow up with chairperson’s for each committee. If you were not able to answer the survey Mrs. Callahan welcomes any and all help in order for this year to have great support for your children.

    Fundraising: All H&S fundraising operates under the parish accounting structure. The H&S treasurer works directly with our business manager, Tom Judge. An 8th grade liaison will join some H&S meetings to report back to the 8th grade families on profits of their fundraising efforts. The fundraising opportunities supported by the 8th grade class will cover only those expenses predetermined; any extra fundraising monies will remain with the whole H&S account to support all students. Fundraising, as we discussed in length at our meeting, only needs to meet the pre agreed upon budget for the eighth grade class. Our goal is to raise what is needed so a large or any out of pocket expense is not left to each family. It is also to keep eighth grade activities positive and void of becoming, “it’s not fair last year got…” Creating a list of covered items approved for fundraising eliminates students always looking for more. Our goal has been to streamline this so all are aware of what the fundraising covers. Fundraisers should be discussed with H&S or Mrs. Tomasetti for approval so they remain different. We discussed lunches and Bundt cake or pie sales in May.
    The 8th grade fundraising efforts will cover the following. In our meeting we gave an estimate of what these might need. The chair for each committee and administration can sit to determine what that total would look like according to class size. We previously estimated this year at $8,000.00.

    • End of Year Spirit Day Obstacle Course

    An explanation of committees follows. Mrs. Callahan will be in touch with those that volunteered to help chair these committees. For those who showed an interest in helping, your names will be shared with the committee chairs. If you would like to help and were not able to be at our meeting or complete the survey please contact Mrs. Callahan via email jcallahan@stdots.com.

    8th Grade T-shirt:
    Parent Organizer: Kelly Ford (already contacted and started the process)
    Mrs. Ford has graciously agreed to spearhead this for the 8th grade class and is currently coordinating with the company. Miss Genna and Mrs. Camuti will have your children sign the “22” the first week of school and then we will send home the form for ordering. The 8th grade tshirt can be worn instead of the St. Dorothy gym shirt on your child’s gym day. The first t-shirt is covered by the fundraising. If you would like to order more than one the cost would be $10.00ea.

    Yearbook Committee:
    The 8th grade yearbook is a treasured keepsake for our students. In past years, we have used the company Entourage to create the yearbook. The Yearbook Committee is responsible for pictures from Kindergarten through 8th grade, quotes from the students and teacher messages.This is an ongoing process that would need to begin right away. A chairperson with at least 4-5 assistants is needed for this committee. The content pages and number of pages all need to be agreed upon with administration. Administration should receive the completed book for review at least a week prior to the due date in order to double check faculty letters, student quotes etc. Committee members should be approving any pictures and comments they see handed in or posted.

    Living Stations Committee:
    Each year during Holy Week, the 8th grade class performs the Lord’s Passion for the school and parish communities. A committee is needed to help wash and iron costumes. Help is also needed before each performance  in assisting students as they get ready. Performances take place the Monday of Holy Week with a performance during the school day and another in the evening. A chairperson and 3-5 assistants is needed for this committee. Each year we ask 8th grade to replenish costumes or materials that are damaged and old. Fundraising efforts have supported this need.

    Dance Committee:
    At the end of the 8th grade year, an 8th Grade Graduation Dance is held for our students to celebrate each other and their accomplishments. The dance committee is responsible for selecting a theme for the dance and presenting the theme to the administration for final approval. The committee also organizes decorations, food and beverages, party favor, and music.  A chairperson with 4-5 assistants is needed for this committee.



    Fundraising Committee:
    Most expenses for the 8th grade class take place in the second half of the school year, but raising money can begin right away. A committee consisting of a chairperson with 3-5 assistants is needed for this committee as well. The committee is responsible for selecting 2 or 3  fundraisers to support the 8th grade fund. All 8th grade families should take part in the fundraising opportunities. The chairperson will be the liaison between the committee, 8th grade families and Mrs. Callahan. If fundraising does not cover the cost of the above budgetary needs we will look to implement a class fee for the remaining costs.
    Due to increased numbers of Covid-19 (Delta variant) field trips are still questionable for the 2021-22 school year.  Should this change, we will reevaluate field trips for our students. Field trips will be an out of pocket expense. They are not covered with fundraising.

    Throughout your child’s 8th grade year, there are special events that take place. These dates were shared at our meeting. If you have not recorded them please do so. It is important that your child hold these dates as a priority. These are part of those wonderful Catholic School and Eighth grade experiences.
    Important Dates:
    • Mass of Thanksgiving: Wednesday, November 17th, 7:00 PM
    • Living Stations: Monday, April 11th, Day and Evening event, 1:15 PM (students) and 7:00 PM (families)
    • May Procession: May 11, 2022 Students arrive at 6:40 PM (girls wear white robes and boys wear green robes. (Good Photo opportunity for yearbook pictures).
    • Spirit Day/Clap out/Graduation Dance: Friday June 10th
    • Graduation: Tuesday, June 14th 7:00 PM church, students arrive at 6:30 Annex
    • Variety Show: TBD
    • Class trips: questionable/TBD
    More detail about events are forthcoming from teachers throughout the year. This is just a glimpse for you.
