Dear Incoming Second Grade Parents,
We would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome you and your child to Second Grade! We are looking forward to an exciting, rewarding, and challenging year ahead.
As you prepare your child for Second Grade, the First-Grade teachers have provided summer assignments to help keep important skills fresh throughout the break.
We recommend:
No break longer than one week from academic practice.
Working on summer assignments 2–3 days per week for approximately 30 minutes each session.
If you have any questions regarding the summer packets, please contact your child's First Grade teacher.
Please Note: The summer packet will be your child's first graded assignment when they return to school in September.
In addition to the summer packets, students are required to read the following two books over the summer:
Author: Cynthia Rylant
ISBN-13: 978-0689810053
Author: Tedd Arnold
ISBN-13: 978-0545564922
Students must read both books before school begins.
Please send both books to school in September.
Students will complete activities based on these books during the first week of school.
A book report for Henry and Mudge is attached and will be graded.
Please continue reviewing addition and subtraction facts throughout the summer. Flash cards are a wonderful tool and can be found at stores such as Target, Walmart, Amazon, and the Dollar Store.
Although September may seem far away, back-to-school sales will be here before we know it! To help you prepare, we are providing the supply list below.
