We encourage you to take an active role in helping to plan the many activities that make St. Dorothy School so vibrant and exciting. Many hands make light work, so please consider volunteering on one or more of the many opportunities to get involved. Studies indicate that children have a more positive academic experience if the parents are involved so please join us!
Adults Who Volunteer With Children:
Any adult who volunteers in an activity in which children are present is required to have on file at the rectory a PA State Police Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Mandated Reporter Training, Volunteer Disclosure Statement & attend a Safe Environment Class entitled, Protecting God’s Children. (Please note: there are many companies that run criminal record checks, but the archdiocese only recognizes the PA State Police check) To find out more information regarding upcomingSafe Environment Part I (the class) and the on-line module for Safe Environment Part II - Mandated Reporter Training, go to www.childyouthprotection.org. Any questions, contact Kathie at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 267-603-9512.
IMPORTANT UPDATE as of 4/1/16:
As per Archdiocesan policy, all employees and volunteers are required to have a number of clearances to be involved in an activity in which a child is present. Prior to this summer, for an 8th grade parent to accompany his/her child on the NYC trip, no clearances were required as long as they were not functioning as a chaperone. This policy changed over the summer.
The parent(s) need to have on file a PA State police record, child abuse history clearance, volunteer disclosure statement (or FBI prints if they have lived out of state in the last 10 years), and mandated reporter training provided by the Archdiocese as an on-line module. THEY DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND THE 3 1/2 HR PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN CLASS(aka Safe Environment Part I)
Noted in the Updated Parent Clearances List are parents with ** next to their names and NYC indicating that they have fulfilled these requirements for the NYC trip. They are cleared to accompany their child, but not function as a chaperone for another child.
